What is the field of psychology you chose to learn more about? Experimental

What are the responsibilities of the psychologist in that field? Utilize scientific methods to research the mind and behavior. Experimental psychologists work in a wide variety of settings including colleges, universities, research centers, government and private businesses. Those who work in academic settings often teach psychology courses in addition to performing research and publishing their findings in professional journals.

What does it take to become this type of psychologist? At minimum a master's degree in general or experimental psychology is required. To work at a university, a doctorate-level degree in psychology is usually required.

Forensic

What is the field of psychology you chose to learn more about? Forensic

What are the responsibilities of the psychologist in that field? Their job Involves applying psychology to the field of criminal investigation and the law. They perform child custody evaluations, investigate reports of child abuse and conduct visitation risk assessments. They assess competency, provide second opinions, provide psychotherapy to crime victims and work with child witnesses. Forensic psychologists are the ones who determine if a person is mentally fit to stand trial or if the can plead insanity.

What does it take to become this type of psychologist?  To become a Forensic Psychologist you must acquire a doctoral degree in psychology and law, hands-on training and you need to be certified as a “Diplomat of Forensic Psychology” by “The American Board of Forensic Psychology”. A degree specifically for forensic psychology typically takes 5 to 7 years of graduate study to complete. Admission into doctoral programs is highly competitive.

What makes this field of psychology different from the other fields you read about? A forensic psychologist is asked to perform a very specific duty in each individual case, such as determining if a suspect is mentally competent to stand trial. Usually deals with clients who are not there of their own free will.

Who do you think this field of psychology would appeal to? Someone who enjoys working with others, enjoys challenges, and has an interest in both law and psychology.
